Animal Lovers

What is it with these 'animal lovers' who adopt a dog from a rescue and say they will give it a good life, then take it home and leave it on their porch all day while they are at work. They come home in the evening and leave it outside on its own again. Then off for a night out and the poor animals are left again, they howl and bark for some attention but never get any, its pitiful. Have they only got them as cheap burglar alarms? The dogs would be better off left in the pound. These people should be ashamed. It is so sad. They could not get away with it in the UK.

If you know where they got the dog from, then get in touch with them and tell them what is going on. They will then be able to do something about it.

Have you spoke to the owners of the dotg and made them aware that it is barking all the time they are out?

We have an adopted dog from SA.T. and if she had her way she would permanetly be outside as she loves it.

But, we choose to keep her in over night.

La Marina.... I agree with you. Between howling dogs and feral cats, life here in Spain has become almost unacceptable. Bring back quarantine i say, and round up all dogs and cats to dump on the doorsteps of those so-called animal lovers" who are making our lives here a misery

OMG!!!! something else being blown out of proportion!!!!! I have seen an occasional barking / howling dog, the majority of animal owners here on the urb are very loving and caring.

Go and talk to the owner of the dog and make them aware, then if they dont listen, take it further.

Round up all the moaning Brits and dump them back in the UK thats what I say!! Life in Spain is hardly unacceptable and actually its a better life for animals to be outside than locked up in a house back in the UK which 99% of animal owners back there do!

I totally agree, everyone needs to moan about something, in England its the weather, or the immigrants, over here its the music and now the animals. Seems to me if these people spent time helping out with a local charity, they would not have time to moan. I think idle hands and minds adds up to moaning.

Hiy to gudy2shoes and Linda in la marina.

I posted on here a few weeks ago on how dogs in Quesada are making our lives a misery and have literally ruined our quality of life at our lovely villa.

I am a dog lover myself and do not under any circumstances blame the animals, it is quite clearly the owners who are the problem.

We have had lengthy and civilsed discussions with several of our neighbours to no avail infact we have been asked to "live and let live" and if it were that easy we would be delighted to do so.

We dont enjoy bad feeling anymore than we enjoy sleepless nights, far too early mornings or the distress that goes with what we we are being subjected too in terms of constant barking day and night.

The dog owners tell us they are used to it and it doesnt really bother them anymore (i dont suppose it does when its your dog)

I cant speak for anyone else but i would say to Linda in la marina that so far as Quesada is concerned it is certainly not being blown out of all proportion.

in fact it is a chronic problem on Quesada and of course there are so many properties with dogs now, that the dog owners are just keeping their heads down and saying nowt because they know it is a problem in the area and that they as individuals are contributing to that problem because they are guilty of allowing their dogs to bark day and night.

I do accept that one dog barking sets of another dog and so it goes on, but as ive said there are so many dogs on quesada now that the problem it is out of control.

We have been very reluctant to take next steps in terms of legal action as we know the consequences can be quite distresing for the dog owners, however after 9 months of negotiations and civilised chats the situation remains dire.

I would point out that none of our neighbours have denied or disputed that the situation is problematic but they ask us "what would we have them do"?

My response is "get some training" to ensure you can look after these animals properly or dont have the dogs at all

I do not dispute most of the animals are well loved and well cared for however it is a fact that many owners on quesada are unable to control their dogs behaviour and before anyone shoots me down and tells me these rescue dogs may have been badly tret and are very nervous, thats why they bark, well. you know that before you take them in therefore it follows that there will be problems and as dog owners and residents you have a responsibility to people in your neighbourhood in that you do not subject them to this nuisance barking.

Residents are entitled to live in peace without being driven mad by barking dogs.

Dog owners may be prepared to put up with all that comes with a rescue dog but that is their choice.Do not asume that your neighbours feel the same way about your dog.

It is cerainly not my choice to be so badly affected by someone elses far reaching decision, to bring home an animal that they are not equipped to control.

Where does it say that we as neighbours have to carry that burden?

For the record we are not elderly, we are not lifestyle complainers, far from it but again having been so badly affected over a prolonged period and having tried everything in a civilised open and transparent manner to resolve matters with our neighbours, without sucess, we have been left with no alternative than to proceed via the law and to be honest I think a lot of people willsoon folow suit.I really hope they do.

So much so that apart from our "private case" we intend to lobby the mayor of Rojales in 2013 into taking action on behalf of non dog owner residents in Quesada

Consider this, all spring and summer we couldnt even enjoy sitting outside our lovely villa enjoyingthe sunshine or the evening settings as we have done for many years taking in the wonderful views, due to the excrutiating barking across the whole of Quesada, but as they say, enough is enough, our patience, respect and understanding for the animals and their owners has now left us and we intend to pursue this nuisance to its full and final satisfactory and quiet conclusion and to be honest I no longer have one ounce of sympathy for the owners.

You will notice I refer to the dog owners and not the property owners as many of the property owners do not live on quesada but instead rent out to long lets and it would appear that a lot of the problems ( NOT ALL) are comning from tenants with dogs. Certainly in our case many of the property ownwers claim they didnt even know their tenants had taken dogs into the properties. They do now though.

Anyway in the final analysis let the law do what it has to and for all the tearful dog owners who fall foul of that law, look to thyself for an answer.

I am sorry to hear that you have had problems with dogs in Quesada.

I live on a community of just over 60 houses, and there are 5 households which have dogs. There used to be one irresponsible dog owner (no doggy bags used!!) but since the president had a "word" there has been no further trouble. I must be lucky and have not had any disturbed nights with dogs howling, nor is there a dog problem in the surrounding area. I don't know what part of Quesada you live in - it's a big place - but I haven't heard any continual barking - day or night - like you describe.

Thank you for your comments
you are indeed very lucky and I do mean that sincerely and you are of course correct in that Quesada is a big place

So much so that ours is not a community that has a presidente. It is a very large area though made up of hundreds of large individual properties i guess you would call it central quesada.

I do understand this dog problem would not be tolerated or even attempted on an urb with a preseidente. I think that fact may well have been taken advantage of over time?, hence us having to follow a legal route now

kind regards

Debra

Strange concept that eve idle hands and minds leads to moaners?

What would you say to those of us who have very busy and purposeful lives, running businesses and bringing up families contributing to society and the economy in every way but just p....d off that when lesisure time does present itself, we cant take advantage of that or relax in our own home's due to irresponsible owners and their barking dogs?

Now I am moaning big style and I have neither idle hands or mind but I do have an opinion and a right not to be driven almost mad by these wretched creatures due to their owners ineffectiveness.

I am not suggesting all owners are the same but many of them are currently responbsible for this scurge on Quesada

Kind regards

Debra

Hi Debra
We went through this when we lived in Crevilente, we were just out of town on the Campo. It was apparently caused by a large part by male dogs turning up outside a property and setting those dogs inside into barking mode particularly when a dog in the villa was on heat .
What we did i do not think is possible on an urbanization, but having had enough I went outside in the middle of the night and used the highest pressure from the hose system on the dogs, both those in the near by villa plus those outside the villa.
It was done in a fit of temper on my behalf as I like my sleep and need it. But what is truly amazing is that it worked. We never had the problem again, yes often we could hear dogs in the distance but not on our back porch.
But I must state I am a dog lover, but refuse to be ruled by them.

Hi Ian
thank you for your comment. I can fully understand how in desperation you were forced into such action and I feel it is only a matter of time before we are forced to take action ourselves.

As I say we are following the letter of the law at the moment but we all have our limits and there is nothing worse than long term sleep deprivation to make a person react.

Anyway food for thought Ian and if needs must so be it. I am grateful for your understanding in this matter

Kind regards

Debra
