Pouring a glass of cold drinking water from the tap was something that we all took for granted before we moved to Spain. Now buying and lugging huge flagons of water home is part of everyday life. Experts recommend that we should drink around two litres of water every day – unfortunately coffee, wine and beer do not count as they have a diuretic effect on the body. Caffeine and alcohol both squeeze water from the cells so that you loose more fluid than you take on board.

If you wait until you are thirsty before you reach for a glass of H2O then you are already dehydrated and the damage is done. When the body is dehydrated it often sends out signals that are misread as hunger pangs. Mild dehydration actually slows down the metabolism, so you are actually missing out two-fold if you let your water in-take slip. In addition, a little dehydration can leave you feeling tired as well as affecting your short term memory.

You will have noticed the smell of chlorine in the tap water here in Spain. Chlorine introduced into the water supply reacts with other naturally-occurring elements to form toxins called trihalomethanes (THMs), which eventually make their way into our bodies. THMs have been linked to a wide range of human health maladies ranging from asthma and eczema to bladder cancer and heart disease. In addition, there are several studies linking moderate to heavy consumption of chlorinated tap water by pregnant women with higher miscarriage and birth defect rates.

Why do I need to filter my water?
The answer to this question varies depending on which area you live. In some areas it would be very dangerous to drink the tap water, whilst in others the high chlorine content not only makes the water unpleasant to drink but could cause long term health problems.

How much does water filter system cost?
Prices start from 95€ for our compact dual filter system ranging up to 199€ for a Reverse Osmosis system, including fitting.

How much does a filter change cost?
Filter changes for our compact dual system cost 30€ and a standard filter change for a Reverse Osmosis system is 39€

I have a system fitted by another company, can you still change my filters for me?
Yes, in many cases we can change your existing filters with the same type, if this is not possible we will upgrade your current system from as little as 30€

Other companies charge a lot more, why are you so cheap?
We do not consider our prices cheap, they are reasonable. I am sure that many of us have noticed how the prices tend to be inflated for expats. Our price reflects a fair Spanish price, also all our equipment is sourced here in Spain, we have negotiated special rates with our suppliers and have passed these savings to our customers, we do not pay expensive shipping costs for filters from other countries not designed for use here in Spain. We have known people charged 85€ for a filter change when the filters are available for only 15€ on the internet, we do not consider this fair or reasonable.

WHAT IS HARD WATER?
Hard water is water that has high levels of dissolved minerals, particularly calcium. The Costa Blanca is one of the hardest water areas of Spain.

HARD WATER PROBLEMS
Hard water causes scale to build up in pipes especially hot water systems, shower heads etc .Scale forms on internal heating elements, baths, basins, taps and shower screens.

HIGHER FUEL COSTS
Heating scale wastes money and increases boiler running time, with no scale on its heating exchanger, a domestic hot water cylinder takes 1 ½ hours to heat up. With just 5mm of scale the boiler has to run for over 4 hours wasting 2 ½ hours of fuel. Once a Limescale remover is fitted it will reduce existing scale and formation of new scale is prevented, allowing your hot water system to work efficiently thus saving money.

HOW IT WORKS
It creates a frequency-modulated electromagnetic field in the supply pipes and forces calcium carbonate that is dissolved in the water to crystallize and not form scale. this is simply carried out of the system. Hard water treated this way acquires the properties of soft water and can dissolve already existing scale.
