Left hand drive car

Hi. I'm coming to live in Quesada for at least a year and was thinking of buying a left hand drive car in the UK, registering it and then coming across using that vehicle. I konw there is a limit on how long you can drive a UK car in Spain but would hopefully transfere everything across to Spanish plates if I enjoy the lifestyle. Can anyone foresee any problems doing this???? Thanks for any help or advice.

Hi, you should be aware that the maximum permitted time that you should keep a foreign (other than spanish plated car) in spain is 6months then it has to leave Spain for atleast 6 months. This is the law but many people keep foreign cars in spain longer, the spanish police are clamping down on foreign cars lately and you risk having the car confiscated (for good) if you break this law. If you are taking a car over with the intention of re-registering it on spanish plates then ensure that it has had absolutely no modifications made (i.e. different sized wheels or tyres, tow bar fitted without garage certificate e.t.c.) otherwise the spanish will not allow it to be registered in spain. If you replate the car in spain there will be taxes to pay, these are based on the CO2 emissions of the car and can be as mush as 14% of the value of the car. You'd be far better to just buy a car in spain already plated. if you need to transport ''things to spain'' there are plenty companies offering a oneway van delivery service. hope this helps

Hi Again Graham, if you have any more questions about cars (I imported two of my cars into spain last year) or spain in general drop me an email at [email protected], I also have a 3 bedroom two bathroomed detacthed villa with solarium & driveway and one street away from communal pool (beleive me you dont want to be right next to noisey people at the pool) that might be coming available for rent feb/march.
