White Swan

Shame to hear that the white swan has now shut for good.
Good entertainment in the past and some nice food.
Good luck with what you do in future.

The Grey area is extinct now. I fear there will be a few more closures in that area very soon.

La Marina

I didn't know that Andi. I knew that the son was going back to England but thought it was still going to be open. What a shame if that's true. Had loads of good nights there.

I thought Janet was due to take over the running of the establishment when Lee goes on the 12th?

Well I was told yesterday afternoon. I walked in to quick save this morning and the people in there shopping were talking about if and that last night that was it.
So yeah a shame another bar has gone.

We really used to enjoy sitting outside in the Summer (an end table) - to try and keep away from the smoke blowing at us - BUT I do not wan't to start another War about that (and stress Myra out more) when she's trying to give up !!

The White Swan did lovely, very reasonably priced meals. My favourite was the liver, bacon & onions - delicious!! PLUS the very popular Jimmy Mac - some great evenings....................

I've heard Spain don't want the English in the country any more because we no longer have any money to spend and therefore trying to make life difficult for them to stay in the country. Ive heard they are making things hard esp English bar owners. Apparently they wants the Sweds etc because they have the money now.

I was in a local hostelry yesterday when Lee was giving away some of fixtures and fittings.
He explained that the owner of the White Swan premises would not allow Lee to have his pub run by another, in this case Janet, leaving Lee with little alternative to close for good.
One of these days the owners/landlords of commercial properties will realise how lucky they are to have good tenants. Soon the Swan will be empty, what use is that to owner?

Commented Friendlyviking in La Marina 2013-01-05 10:56:22 UTC

I went up there this morning and they were just about to leave the premises for good. Such a shame !!

It's about time some of these Landlords started to give their Tenants a bit of a reduction in the rents they are paying. It's know wonder so many have folded JUST GREEDY LANDLORDS. Who only find out later when tenants have gone how hard it is to find another tenant. In this recession the rents are just to high.
Landlords don't wait for them to have to close down give them help now.

Sorry to hear about the White Swan.I wonder if the Council will ever step in and give moral support to the businesses that La Marina need to survive,We are seeing businesses closing down on a regular basis, and never re opening. If this carries on the Town Hall gang, will soon be cutting back on necesitties, due to the lessening amount of SUMA money they receive.Oh silly me,they will just charge everybody more this year,One thing for sure they wont lose a cent themselves. With La Marina getting emptier and emptier,do we still need to pay 17 people to do less and less.

The White Swan, then known as the Celtic Connection, was our first local in La Marina. We had some wonderful nights there with people like Ronnie Solo, Gerry Shaw and Mike Hopkins playing music every Thursday & Saturday. Then Roberto & Helen took over. And finally it became the White Swan. The biggest problem is there are too many bars now in La Marina and sadly they cannot all survive. Landlords can only cut their prices so much and then they start working for nothing. I think this is going to be a bad month for all business's. it is now a White Elephant.

Eve.
I think you will see it will be a bad year for all the bars here on the Urb. I think you will see many bars close down by April. The thing is, as more businesses close its less money for this council or any council but yet wages still go up.
All there is now in the grey area is, bonnies, grill house, Woodstock, anandas, ramons. All the other units are shut up and up for sale.

Andi,
I think you are spot on!

Commented Friendlyviking in La Marina 2013-01-05 18:33:03 UTC

Mauri

I totally forgot about them, and when feeding a few stray cats today around by there restaurant I heard they had a good winter, the people who now run the French restaurant that is.

Commented Andi in La Marina 2013-01-05 20:19:23 UTC

yes things are getting much better now, people have realised that the new owners are well nice and the food is very good too without being too expensive, of course since I work there I would thoroughly recomment it :)

What about Bob's Bar, one of the most successful bars on the urb, let alone in just the grey area.
Used to love the White Swan Monday Club, particularly in the summer.

Commented Salty Dog in La Marina 2013-01-05 21:51:58 UTC

Very true Salty Dog. Although as of lately they don't seem to open until 12 midday, I've only ever been in once.
I guess we all have our own favourite places we all like to go watch footie, drink a drink ect ect.
Place to be lately has to be the Woodstock, my opinion.

Commented Andi in La Marina 2013-01-05 22:01:58 UTC

still a shame about the white swan for sure,,,woodstock is great as well as Cagneys where I have to say the food is excellent, been there a few time now and was never let down :)

Commented mauri 7 in La Marina 2013-01-05 22:07:56 UTC

Got to admit Cagneys is my favorite, although not been in lately, due to flare up of Rheumatoid Arthritis,Hopefully this will settle down eventually, and i can get out and about again, and the first place I will go will be to visit Kate and Ricky, and have a reasonable priced food and drink, with superb hospitality
