ROJALES SCHOOL

Hi All,
We are moving over to the area in the new year with our 3 children aged 3,7,11.
Any advice on enrolling them into the school would be great.
I have also been reading that a new school is being built in Quesada, opening in 2012, is this true?
Would my 11 year old start at secondary school or primary?
Any info would be great.
Many thanks Kelly :)

Quesada

Kelly you really need to look into this. The new school in Quesada hasn't been started yet and the old one is, by all accounts a leaky old place with all sorts of problems, and of course it is Spanish. There are schools in other towns locally, but I don't know how you go about enrolling the kids. Do they speak Spanish? The three year old will have no trouble as little ones soak up Spanish in no time. The others will really struggle because the lessons are taught in Spanish! There is a school called Mar Azul at Playa Flamenco, about half a hour away which is an English school, so you might look in to that.
Also you will be moving over halfway through a school year which will be difficult.

Hi
with regard to your school search, in terms of the age of your children I wouldnt be put off by that, A freind of mine moved her boys from uk to torrevieja and into a spanish school there, they were 7 and 9 respectively at that time with not a word of spanish between them. The 7 year old did have bit of a struggle for the first 3 months with the language, but the school made provision fo this as there are a high number of expats from several countries integrating into the spanish way of life.

In the end these two boys are now fluent in spanish and as such have completey integrated into spanish life and culture.

I personally think it is wonderful for the children to have these opportunites and even if by choice they return to their motherland later on, well theyll be bi lingual at the very least and thats an asset worth having for any childs future

stick with it, do your homework and go vist the schools yourself im sure youll be pleasantly surprised as long as you do the spadework first

Having said that I do understand that the cost of childrens books etc which parents must purchase, are rather expensive so I would find out about that as well.

good luck and let us know how you get on

Hi,

I realise this is an old post but I was wondering If you sent your children to the school in Rojales?? My family are moving out in 7 weeks , and my son is 5 so is undecided as whether to send him here or pay and send him to Mar Azul. He has no spanish, and is quite shy so id be worried about him settling in. How did your children settle in? How did the school facilitate them?

Thanks in advance

Hi Canvasbox. My neice and nephew go to Rojales school. When they came over here they had not been to school in the UK,(aged 4 and 2). They now speak excellent Spanish and have made many friends both english and spanish and settling in there wasn't a problem. There are plenty of english children at this school, so they wouldn't be just mixing with children they can't communicate with straight away. I would definitely recommend going into Spanish school rather than an english speaking school. Good luck.
